The Challenge
At first glance, Lily's room looked fairly neat. But once we opened the closet, looked under the bed, and worked through bags and boxes, it became clear the room simply needed better systems—not just more storage.
Like many organizing projects, the room looked much messier before it looked better.
Everything came out so I could sort by category, eliminate trash and outdated items, and determine what truly belonged in the space.
The closet had become difficult to use efficiently, with clothing, shoes, and everyday items competing for limited space. The first step was removing everything to evaluate what belonged and create intentional systems.
The Process
Instead of simply moving things around, every category was evaluated before anything went back into the room.
During the project we:
✓ Completely emptied and reorganized the closet
✓ Rearranged furniture to improve flow
✓ Removed trash and outdated schoolwork
✓ Organized clothing into logical categories
✓ Created designated homes for everyday items
✓ Maximized under-bed storage
✓ Designed systems that are realistic for a teenager to maintain

The "messy middle." During the organizing process, every category is sorted before a permanent home is created. Temporary staging areas on the bed and around the room allow thoughtful decisions instead of simply moving clutter from one place to another.
The Finishing Touches
The organization was only part of the project.
To leave the room completely finished, I also:
• Measured and sourced storage containers
• Installed custom labels
• Replaced light bulbs
• Installed a new towel bar and toilet paper holder
• Swapped mismatched hangers
• Made the bed
• Completed the final styling
These small details may seem simple, but together they remove several items from a busy parent's mental to-do list.
Even hidden spaces deserve thoughtful systems. The under-sink cabinet was organized into clearly defined categories using labeled acrylic bins, making everyday products easy to find, access, and put away.

Will everything stay perfect forever?
